Rules of Conduct The following rules are applicable in all Zeitgeist Movement official communication mediums such as forums or Teamspeak. 1. Please treat everyone with respect. Insulting, derogatory and/or any other disrespectful discourse is inappropriate and unacceptable. 2. Please do not engage in personal attacks/ad hominem. An Ad Hominem argument/attack is characterised by arguing with and/or attacking the person instead of addressing the topic in question. Try not to respond to such attacks, except to politely expose the situation and redirect the discussion to the topic. 3. Respect the specific category/channel designations within the Forum and Teamspeak. This includes their descriptions, including the discussion going on at the moment. 4. Respect a moderator's decision. It is necessary to respect a moderator’s decision to set a channel to be moderated, lock a post, delete a channel, request users move a particular discussion to another category/channel and/or prohibit further discourse, by enforcing server kicks, global mutes or bans. 5. Do not post an individual's contact information unless it is already publicly available. Only post such information if you have been given explicit permission from the person to do so. Ensure that you use discretion before posting your own contact information such as phone numbers. Private messaging is the best way to exchange personal information, if it is necessary to do so. 6. Do not advocate or discuss anything which is illegal, or violent. Discussions advocating illegal or violent activity will blocked immediately, and users may be banned without warning. 7. Do not bump topics People will pay attention to and comment what they view as relevant; "bumping" a topic just to get it constantly in the recent topics is not permited. Purpose: These rules were written in an effort to assist/protect members in our communication mediums, to allow everyone to participate without prejudice or intimidation and encourage everyone to focus on civil communication methods. The Zeitgeist Movement communication mediums are provided free of charge as tools for members of the Movement to share and organize ideas and actions. The term member is defined as: A person who supports a social group and shares common values and initiatives. Please understand that this is not an "open-chat" environment and that this communication medium is not intended for the expressions of any persons other than those who support the Movement and communicate in the context of related issues. While constructive criticism with positive intent is always welcome it should be respectful of the Movement, its members, and users of the communication platform at all times. The definition of respectful lies with the judgment of the moderators and administrators based on the interpretation of our rules, etiquette and guidelines. Persons using these services who do not reflect this accepted approach and attitude will have their access revoked. We make this explicitly clear because, since the inception of this website and its communication mediums, a relatively large degree of hostile opposition, harassment and spam has occurred. In order to keep our members/users free from being abused and have their time wasted, we must make it clear that anyone acting in an outright negative capacity against the social direction denoted in our materials will not be welcome here. Channel Creation: In Teamspeak you are free to create your own channel for your own needs only if your purpose reflects the context of general movement operations. The channel you create will be of a “temporary status” which means it will delete itself automatically when empty. Instructions on how to create your own temporary channel can be found in the welcome channel description. The server operates under a “create as needed” policy in which most channels are created when needed for various purposes and after they are used/become empty, are automatically deleted by the server. The only permanent channels are channels that are part of the core channel structure or that display a consistent demand by members. General Advice: 1. Before you ask general questions about The Zeitgeist Movement, please read all of the FAQ content on the website. Reading the activist orientation guide is highly recommended. 2. When in a chapter or team meeting please keep the chat use to a minimum for all who are unable to speak, so they can communicate in chat more efectively without so much “noise”. Also when chatting always make sure it is on topic. 3. Avoid hijacking discussions. This can, unfortunely, take place simply by interrupting an ongoing discussion with a different subject. If it is urgent, ask politely first in voice chat. or open a different thread in the forum, for example. Conflict Resolution/Reporting: USER > USER: In case of conflict between users, a private and mature discussion between all parties involved should be sought first, in case thats not feasible, you should contact a server admin. If no server admin is available send your complaint to chapters@thezeitgeistmovement.comThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ; please provide an accurate description with chat logs or recordings if possible. USER > MODERATOR: Send any complaints/issues you may have with a moderator to chapters@thezeitgeistmovement.comThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ; please provide an accurate description with chat logs or recordings if possible. If you see a global moderator online (currently with a red “S”) you should contact that person. This naturally also applies to conflicts between moderators. Account Suspensions: Generally speaking, when a general user is believed to be in violation of these rules, and the user has a favourable record of prior use, they will first be warned in the platform on which the violation occurred, when the nature of the violation does not require immediate action, and when the violation does not appear to be intentional. They may also be warned privately, by personal message, chat, or other means as it is often preferred not to interfere with any other affairs. If violations are repeated after an initial warning, the user may be globally muted or suspended in the server depending on the severity. The length and requirements of a suspension are decided by the administrator/moderator acting. Reinstatement will generally be granted when the user acknowledges the nature of the infraction, makes all necessary amends, and agrees not to repeat the violation. Repeated violations and suspensions, which are deemed to indicate an unwillingness to respect the rules, will result in indefinite suspension. In cases where a user believes that a suspension has occurred due to a misinterpretation, or when a user requests reinstatement, email chapters@thezeitgeistmovement.comThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. . Users suspended in chapters may also be suspended in teamspeak.
